To our Huber Hive Community

Welcome to the first issue of The Beeline!

Through The Beeline, we aim to keep our community abreast of the latest developments in the social impact arena. We'll explore new applications of our framework and methodology in Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and beyond, and take joy in spotlighting the impactful work of our clients and partners worldwide.

At Huber Social, our success is deeply rooted in the meaningful relationships we've cultivated over the years. Without your support, we wouldn't have reached the milestones we cherish today. So, thank you and if you're a Huber client and wish to share your story here please get in touch.

Ngā mihi nui,

Michelle Macaskill

Interim CEO,

Huber Social

Kia ora, I’m Michelle

As the interim CEO, I understand that my name may be unfamiliar to many of you. Allow me to introduce myself. I proudly identify as a first-generation New Zealander, with roots tracing back to the Netherlands. Born and raised in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, I bring to this role a rich tapestry of experiences. While I am new to this position, I am no stranger to Huber Social. Over the past five years, I've

collaborated closely with the team, contributing to and leading projects both in Aotearoa and beyond. Together, we've also been working to support the delivery of community wellbeing baselines, particularly within the vibrant communities of the Waikato region where I live.

I eagerly anticipate continuing our dialogue and charting a course - our beeline - towards the future we collectively envision.

Did you know that the 'waggle dance' is the way that bees share resources and information with each other? At Huber, we recognise that our readers are intelligent, action-focused changemakers who are doing remarkable work within their own organisations.

That's why, in each edition of The Beeline, we invite you 'waggle' with us - that is, to share your insights, ideas and thoughts.

Our inaugural question is:

"What do you see as the biggest challenges in measuring and managing the social impact of initiatives effectively?

And how are you addressing them?"

Project Highlight - Sitara Social Impact Report

Addressing gender inequality in India through affordable housing finance. In 2017, Sasakawa Peace Foundation / 公益財団法人 笹川平和財団 (SPF) initiated the Asia Women Impact Fund (AWIF), to bolster women's economic empowerment and gender equality. SPF, supported by Brightlight, partnered with Huber Social to measure the social impact of Sitara (SEWA Grih Rin Limited).

The key findings were:

  • Sitara has a positive impact that is sustained over time.

  • Financial health is critical to customer wellbeing.

  • In the short-term, Sitara customers improve their financial literacy and mental health.

  • In the long-term, Sitara customers have greater autonomy and respect from others.

  • Asset ownership empowers women.

  • Non-business owners and widowed customers may benefit from unique support services
