To our Huber Hive Community

We hope that our third edition of the Beeline is reaching you in good spirits, and that our Southern Hemisphere readers are keeping warm, and our Northern Hemisphere readers cool.

As a traveller between both hemispheres in the last few months, visiting clients along the way, I've been reflecting on the impactful time we've had at Huber Social, working on many diverse impact measurement projects and delivering for our impact-driven community.

We continue to be awed and inspired by the work that our clients do. And while we are supporting our partners across Australia and beyond every day, this month we’re highlighting two recently released reports for clients in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The first, with Creative Waikato who ran a pilot program for artists-in-residence, which introduced a new funding model to support artists, while driving significant social outcomes. The second, with Child Cancer Foundation who continue to partner with us to measure and maximise their impact.

Both reports offer deep insights into the impact that these organisations are having on their respective communities.

We invite you to dive into these stories, perhaps reflect on the role of creativity in your own work or the importance of hope, and discover how we can all contribute to a more vibrant, connected world.

Community Governance Event

Huber Social's Interim CEO, Michelle Macaskill will be speaking at the Research and evaluation for our not-for-profits

event on October 18th together with Sara Passmore (Doctoral candidate) and further panel guests - to be announced.

Community Governance Aotearoa supports the effective governance of community organisations across New Zealand, and we're thrilled to be partnering with them to deliver this important session.

Highlights from this year’s findings include:

  • Overall wellbeing of CCF families has been maintained.

  • On average, CCF families reported feeling less overwhelmed with greater access to support services.

  • Encouraging healthy partner relationships among families offers an opportunity to maximise impact.

  • CCF supported bereaved families in their resilience.

The findings of this report illustrate how communities and decision-makers can view, value, resource, and celebrate arts and culture in the Waikato region. The results were also presented to Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage in New Zealand last month.

This month, one of our Delivery Managers, Olivia Webster, visited our clients Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Japan, shortly after the release of the Sitara report.

We love to visit our clients in person when we can - not only does it make for a great change of pace away from the screen but it's always lovely to see the context and environment in which our clients work.

Thank you for having us Sasakawa Peace Foundation!

Huber Social Delivery Managers Nat Baigent and Simon Vaughan recently travelled to the Northern Rivers, NSW, Australia to continue our work with Resilient Lismore.

We have been working in partnership with Resilient Lismore for a number of years to support the continued measurement and maximisation of their impact within disaster recovery and preparedness. This time we were there to support them to articulate the broad complexity of the work they do, and why how they do it through their community-led approach matters.

Thank you to the Paul Ramsay Foundation for supporting our most recent measurement project. Follow us on LinkedIn for multiple upcoming releases.

Child Cancer Foundation Social Impact Report

We’re honoured to partner with Child Cancer Foundation (CCF) as they walk alongside children and their families on their cancer journey and work towards advancements in child cancer care.

Since 2020, CCF has collaborated with Huber Social to measure and maximise their impact. By continually applying insights and lessons from each year's measurement, CCF has been dedicated to delivering the best possible support to families going through child cancer in New Zealand.

We’re delighted to share the results of CCF’s 2023-24 measurement detailed in their fourth annual Social Impact Report.

Whiria te Tāngata Social Impact Report

At Huber Social, we optimise resource allocation for maximum positive outcomes through social impact measurement. Creative Waikato has used our insights to develop a program addressing wellbeing needs.

Whiria te Tāngata (WTT), the first multi-community artist-in-residence programme in Aotearoa, New Zealand, introduced a new funding model to support artists while driving significant social outcomes. Our outcomes-based measurement framework captured the programme's essence: connections to oneself, others, community, culture, and place. This report highlights the multifaceted social value of supporting creativity, arts, and culture within communities.

Key findings include:

  • WTT effectively delivered on its impact goals, building more connected, cohesive and culturally-rich communities.

  • WTT supported mental wellness outside the mental health system.

  • WTT respondents reported more positive satisfaction with life.
Change occurred where it mattered most for artists’ wellbeing.

  • Waikato called for “more of the same” from WTT: Whole-person inclusive programmes which are accessible during financial hardship.
